A common challenge for companies with a content marketing strategy is finding the time to create original content. Content curation is the art of balancing content found on the web and content originally created by you or your team members. Curating content is great way to ease the burden of finding the time to create original content.
Particularly, a struggle for B2B businesses is finding relevant and meaningful content to share with other business leaders in their industry. As a marketer that manages and creates content for The Level, I’ve found a few tools that I keep in my toolkit to help curate content. Here are five of my favourite tools:
#1: Alltop
Alltop, launched in 2008 by Guy Kawasaki is an online magazine rack of the top blog and news articles. Highly searchable for a range of topics from health to tech, it is a great tool to curate content and keep on top of relevant content in their industry. After signing up, Alltop allows you to create a page where you can add your favourite blogs. This feature also known as MyAllTop is great since you can visit this page once a day or week to find content to curate or share. A great example of this would be a topic page is the Top Social Media Marketing page.
#2: LinkedIn
LinkedIn has evolved over the years as a professional network connecting over 225 million people all over the world. The social media platform is in a number of different languages to serve their members in over 200 countries and territories including English, French, German, Malay, Japanese, Tagalog and more.
LinkedIn Today is a stop for the “news and insights you need to know” and allows businesses to follow channels to stay current on articles from industry influencers and news sources.
#3: SlideShare
SlideShare is the world’s largest community of presentations and a great resource for B2B content. Not only can it be used for content marketing but also as a platform for content curation. For content marketing purposes, social platforms including LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook have made it simple for companies to share presentations across all of these channels. However, used effectively, businsses can find presentations and curate them effectively with their audience. You can browse from the top, featured and slide decks from the latest conferences.
And… Evernote Web Clipper
After curating content, how do you remember all the posts, articles and slides you’ve come across? Evernote Web Clipper is an easy-to-use tool that lets you save anything you find online from text to links to images. It comes as an add-on to browsers including Firefox and Chrome. I use Evernote Web Clipper to clip an article, save it and read it later. This is really convenient since there are so many articles published in a day and only so much time to read it. I especially like how it allows me to easily organize the articles into notebooks and tags – making it highly searchable.
Closing Thoughts
It is important to note the difference between good content curation and just sharing. Good content curation is not just sharing or liking content on your social media channels but sharing it in a meaningful way and crediting your sources.
